We are Frenchie specialists. Having been Frenchie parents, we have experience with wrinkle hygiene, grooming, nail trims, baths, allergies, medication and supplements, special diets and food prep, post- surgery care, eye care, cones, hand-feeding, temperature management, IVDD care, allergies, separation anxiety and leash reactivity, Zoomies, farting, ball-craziness, and the highly sensitive personality and desire for company that makes the breed so special. But while we love our Frenchie VIPs, we welcome pups of all makes and models!
We get it. We didn’t have easy dogs either! In fact, our dogs were lovable jerks.
We are comfortable and confident with leash reactivity, having had reactive dogs of our own, and we're responsive, alert and able to ensure your pet has the space and they need to be safe and happy on walks. We are experienced with how to manage:
allergies
separation anxiety
reactivity
medication, supplements, eye drops, and special diets
post-surgery care and cones
temperature management
IVDD and back injuries
We especially love bullies, pitties, seniors, shy pups and weirdos, and we are happy to keep up good training progress you're making - we have experience with clicker and positive reinforcement training and have fostered fearful pups just getting used to people. With the utmost of respect for what works for you and your dog, we politely decline clients using choke collars or physical punishment methods.
We offer a retreat experience in our secure 3-level townhouse. We create a quiet, safe and loving environment so your pet can unwind without the stimulation of other dogs. We only sit or board for a single client at a time and we have no other pets and no children, so your pooch can be a spoiled only child while they’re with us. We have dog gates in case your pup is nervous or unable to do stairs and we happily do "dog ubers" up the stairs and "pork lifts" to the bed/couch if your pup is little, sore, or is a senior. For our reactive friends, we have a private entrance and a non-elevator access for walks and potty. We are located directly across the street from a dog park with trails and seawall access. It’s dog heaven.
Sarah works from home and Jake works a hybrid week so snuggles and company are an all-day thing and we can take breaks for play sessions and walks.
We have fresh water available all day and will do meals according to your pup's schedule. Treats and blueberries available for willing guests! We are well stocked with (safely sized) balls and toys, as well as a snuffle mat and snuffle ball for mental engagement. Don't be nervous to ask about baths, nail trims, morning “detailing” like teeth brushing, wipes or medication.
The dog park across the street makes a great spot to catch up on sniffs and playtime. All guests will get up to 4 potty breaks a day and a 30m walk as our minimum standard, and for those guests with solid leash skills, we very often spoil them more (including seawall runs!) If your dog needs more exercise than this standard, and/or does not have basic leash skills, we can usually accommodate more exercise via add-ons - let us know what you need and we can figure out a plan. We often go for a hike or trail run on Saturday mornings and dog-friendly pups are welcome to join (leash on!)
And yes, your pups are allowed on the comfy couch and can even sleep on the bed! After all, they will be part of our family while you are away.
We use text as our main form of communication, and we'll bomb you with lots of photos so you have lots of open communication and updates. We have a dedicated, shared communication line for our business, so both of us see all communication and you're able to reach us directly. We will confirm with you what level of communication you like – from “I’m anxious, share lots of updates!” to “leave me alone, I’m on vacation.” We have "Care Cards" to share updates with pet parents throughout the day about exercise, adjustment comfort, water, feeding and meds.
Usually, Jake or Sarah (or both!) are at home to offer enrichment, attention and care, and we even strive to minimize meetings when we have guests.
However, we may either need to be on a dedicated call (in a different room to manage noise) or step out during your dog's stay. In this event, we have a Furbo to monitor your pup and limit any 'alone time' to 2h.
If your pup suffers from separation anxiety that won’t permit them to be comfortable in this situation for up to 2 hours without stress barking, non-selective chewing, or more than mild distress, we've been there. We can accommodate Continuous Care by coordinating our schedules to provide constant company for your pet.
Continuous Care is available at an uplift of ~20% uplift on the total rate. This service can be booked under “Continuous Care” under our Services. (It's important for us to know ahead of time how your dog will respond to being alone so that we can book the right service for your dog – we never want to have to decline a booking due to unforeseen scheduling issues!)
We have a vehicle that can safely transport your pup if needed and live within 5 minutes of both an emergency vet clinic and many great vets in the area. While fun is our middle name, our first name is safety. Your pet's safety and wellbeing is paramount to us, so:
Unless we have met and cared for your pet and built a long-term relationship, we will not do off leash walks or hikes. Pooches can be far less predictable with their recall with parents away, so we make it fun with leashes ON.
Similarly, we don't love off-leash dog parks. We find it can overstimulate dogs and increase the likelihood of a bad interaction that we can't manage at a distance. So it's a no unless we've got more experience with your pet.
Sadly, not all pet parents respect on-leash designations for hiking trails, so for reactive pups we avoid leash-on trails and instead offer park and city walks (we're good at maintaining space for our more dramatic friends.)
While your pup is in our care we say 'no thank you' to communal waterbowls to avoid the spread of worms and parvo.
Do you know what's covered (and not) when you leave your precious pet with others?
We provide care through pet-sitting platforms, and have left our own pets with treasured, responsible sitters we found on them. However, if you check, you'll find most pet-sitting platforms clarify that they are not pet care providers, they connect you to pet care providers, and that they recommend all walkers and sitters carry their own professional insurance. However, the majority of casual dog-sitters, boarders and walkers do not.
But what about the "guarantees?" In their own words, these programs are not insurance - they are reimbursement. They exist to fill the gap when the pet care provider is unable or unwilling to pay for costs arising from damage or injury attributable to negligence and when insurance is not available. If your sitter doesn't have adequate (or any) coverage, you may be financially vulnerable. These guarantees often provide no protection for damage or injury to your sitter or your sitter's home, and even if an incident or injury is covered, you typically have a short window to submit a claim or lose all protection.
Pardon My Frenchie is fully insured through ProFUR Insurance, a professional policy designed specifically for pet care businesses. Our coverage protects you, your pet, other people and pets, and property in ways other pet sitting platforms can't.
With our comprehensive insurance, we have:
Injury and illness coverage of up to $10,000 per pet (including other pets injured by your pet) and $50,000 per occurrence
$2M general coverage for injury or property damage (includes pain & suffering for pets)
Up to $50,000 medical coverage per person for third parties
Up to $5,000 of lost pet search & recovery insurance (including reward, flyers, and search)
Emergency evacuation & safe relocation in the event of fire, earthquake or flood
$500,000 coverage for sitter's home and contents, including up to $10,000 coverage for crates, beds, toys, and other equipment
Most importantly, our protection is always active while pets are in our care. On pet-sitting platforms, you are typically only protected from the start to the end of the original booking. This can leave you completely unprotected if start and end times change - even if you are simply late in picking up your dog.
We love pet-sitting platforms, and they will be the first to tell you in their Terms and Conditions that they are intended to connect you to care providers - not insure care.
We are in the business of creating a great experience for your dog, so the more we know the better. Please let us know any and all health concerns, needs and behavioural quirks so we can be wonderful hosts. This includes likes, dislikes, allergies or sensitivities, medications, leash behaviour, stranger or dog reactivity, sleeping preferences, and any training you're doing that we can reinforce (including leash behavior.) While we are easily able to manage the occasional excited woof, if your dog responds vocally to any stimulus, or engages in non-selective chewing, please let us know so we can discuss specific requirements and design the right stay for your pup (and our neighbors!)
That's What We're About.

We’re so glad to have you and your pet in our pet community!
